Gelli® Printed Tealight Bags

Hello! Welcome to the Gelli Arts® Blog!
Birgit here today with a fun and simple project to bring some light to these darker winter days.

Add a unique and personal touch to your Christmas decorations by Gelli® printing on white paper bags and put tea lights in them!

Here’s what you need:
Thin white paper bags (for sandwiches)
Acrylic paint (for instance gold or silver combined with your favorite colors)
Printer paper
Scissors
Small jars
Optional: Matte Medium + Flat brush

Before you start printing cut a bunch of snowflake shapes from printer paper.
Do a quick search on Google or YouTube and you will find loads of tutorials on how to cut these - check this tutorial out here!

Take some paper bags and open them carefully at the bottom or cut off the bottom strip so you have a bag with an opening on 2 sides.

Use a brayer to spread gold or silver acrylic paint on the Gelli® plate. These colors are translucent which will help make the light shine through beautifully and add a festive sparkle to the bags!

Place a paper bag at the edge of the plate and put your hands in from both sides. Now roll the bag towards yourself gently rubbing the paper with your hands. If you're using a larger bag you may have to go back and repeat this step until the entire bag is colored.

Color a bunch of bags so you have them ready for the next step. Let them dry well then fold them back into the original shape.

Now take out the paper snowflakes.

Spread your favorite acrylic colors on the Gelli® plate and lay some of the snowflakes on top.

Then place a colored paper bag on top and gently rub to make the print.

Peel the paper snowflakes from the Gelli® plate. Don’t wait to long before doing this, when the paint dries it gets a little harder to remove the paper from the plate. Save the painted snowflakes for future use!

Another way of printing is using stencils.
Spread the paint on the Gelli® plate and lay stencils on top.
Of course you can now go straight ahead and make a print on a bag. But I like the second print much better than the first!  If you agree :) pull the first print with a regular piece of copy paper (save this print - you can use it for a collage paper later if you like!) and then take your second print with your white bag.

Now remove the stencils from the plate and make a print from the remaining paint.
I really, really love this distressed look!

Make a variety of prints on all your bags. If at the end you have a couple of prints that didn’t turn out so well then they will probably be a great background for your painted snowflakes.
Use a matte medium to apply them to the bags.

Let the bags dry well and close the bottom again. Then roll down from the top and place a glass (jar) inside to hold a tea light.

Happy Holidays! J

Gelli® Printed Gem Ornaments

Hi there! It’s Marsha here and I’ve got a cute project for you that will add a little glam to your holidays. It’s suitable for all ages, so the kids can join in too!

Step 1:
Take a couple of chipboard sheets and gelli® print on them on both sides.

If you stick to a limited colour palette of two colours that make up a third colour when mixed, you don’t need to clean your plate in between pulls. In the sample I used turquoise and two pink tones. If you mix them together you get purple.

Start with prints of just blocks of colour and then move on to making marks and pulling partial prints of the marks on the chipboard sheets.

Watch my video to get a better idea of how I did it!

Step 2:
Use the Gelli Arts®Mini Printing Plates to stamp onto the gelli® printed chipboard sheets with more paint. Use metallic paints for an extra festive look!

Step 3:
Once the paint is dry, you can cut the chipboard into shapes. Use the Mini Printing Plates as a template or just cut your own freehand shapes.

Step 4:
Transform the chipboard shapes by drawing on them to make them look like real gems.

Optional:
Add a glossy finish to the gems. I heat embossed each gem with clear embossing powder, but you can also use something like Glossy Accents or a gloss varnish/sealer for this.

Just make sure that the pen you used to draw the gems is waterproof, so you don’t smear your drawings when brushing on the varnish!

Step 5:
Punch a hole it each gem and add a ribbon.
Use the gems to decorate your tree or use them as cute gift tags!

Happy Holidays!

Gelli® Printed Winter Garland

Hello and welcome to the Gelli Arts® blog. It’s Birgit back with a fun wintery project using the new Gelli Arts® Round Mini Kit.

Start with gathering all the necessary supplies. Here’s what you need:
Gelli Arts® Round MiniKit, Brayer, Acrylic paint – a variety of blues, white and black, a white acrylic marker, Fabric (unbleached canvas), Felt – Thick (about 0.5 cm), Stamps – Carabelle Studio SMI0123, SA70103 and SA70111, Beads, String Thread and Embroidery thread.

Take the Mini RoundGelli® Plate from the packaging and apply it to the plastic dish it came in. You can use it as an acrylic block and it turns your Gelli® plate into an easy to handle stamping tool!
Apply a little bit of paint to the plate and spread it with a brayer, then stamp the paint onto the fabric. Create 24 circles like this.

Let the paint dry, then use the comb and the punchanella (in the Gelli Arts® Round Mini Kit) to create texture. Add paint to the plate, make marks/remove paint and print on top of the 24 circles you made in the first step.

Use the plastic dish as an acrylic block and apply paint to the rubber stamps using a brayer. This way you will get a nice and even layer of paint. Use the stamp on half of the circles.

Use an acrylic marker to add white snowflake splatters to the printed circles.

Cut out the printed circles. Draw smaller circles on the felt and cut them out too. You need 12 of these.

Now it’s time to put the garland together. Thread some beads to a string, then lay 1 printed circle on the table, right side down, place the thread on top, going through the middle. Then place a felt circle on top of that, followed by another printed circle, right side up. Use a pin to hold everything together. Sew the circles together with a simple flat stitch, then thread some beads again and apply the next set of circles. Continue untill you've applied all 12 sets to the string.

Finish with some beads and your garland is ready. Perfect to decorate your house but also a great gift!

Thank you for visiting. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and got inspired to create something wintery!

Happy printing!
